Build relationships with local governmental and non-profit organizations to ensure access and to start learning. Form a multidisciplinary design team and ensure that everyone supports the aim of obtaining comprehensive user insight: the team, the client, and local partners.

Start learning about the context through literature, internet or people familiar to the context. Think with the team about which activities to conduct, which methods to use and which materials to prepare. Get the team acquainted with the CDD approach and train the team for conducting rigorous qualitative research in the field.

Finally, in order to use time in the field efficiently, plan activities, but keep sufficient time for documentation, analysis and unexpected things to happen.
